At mPharma, we start and end our day thinking about how we can enable patients to afford their medications. We’re a small but growing team of 200+ members headquartered in Accra, Ghana, backed by some of the world’s leading venture capital firms. We’ve joined hands with third-party payers, drug manufacturers and healthcare providers to develop products and services that directly reduce the costs of prescription drugs for patients. In only a few months, we’ve managed to provide low-cost, high-quality medicines to tens of thousands of patients across four African countries (Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe)


Position Description

mPharma is looking for a responsible and trustworthy professional with exceptionally high work standards to join our team as a Pharmacy Project Manager. This role will focus on supporting the rollout of our retail pharmacy chain in Malawi

The Manager will work closely with a diverse set of mPharma team members (Finance, Supply Chain, Marketing, Mutti and HR) to develop and implement a strategy for setting up and operating our retail pharmacies. 

As mPharma is a dynamic, rapidly expanding organization, the Lead will also be expected to contribute to other initiatives that are critical to mPharma’s continued success. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Design new concepts for a community pharmacy that extends mPharma ability to offer the lowest prices for medications
  • Develop and implement the go-to-market strategy for the pharmacy brand in collaboration with the Marketing team
  • Design unique value-added services that will be offered by the pharmacy network (Mutti point person)
  • Develop an operations manual for the pharmacy
  • Support the recruitment and training of pharmacy staff
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for a successful execution
  • Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress
  • Manage relationships with all stakeholders
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Develop spreadsheets, diagrams and process maps to document needs

  • Background in setting up and managing a retail pharmacy
  • Experience in African private healthcare sector
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (MBA, MPH or similar degree)   
  • Portuguese, Swahili or Amharic language skills



  • Bachelor’s degree in Project management, Supply Chain Management, Pharmacy or any other related field
  • 5+ years of work experience preferably in retail, project management or business analyst-type role in either the private or public sector
  • Experience managing teams in a fast-paced start-up environment
  • Advanced Microsoft Office user, particularly for Excel 
  • Fluent oral and written English
  • Ability to travel locally (40% of the time)
